How to Resolve a problem with printing blank pages for HP InkJet printers

Posted byvbilyk

During printing, you may encounter instances where some or all of your pages come out blank.

Encountering this problem on your HP printer can halt your printing tasks immediately.

Please Check Cartridge Compatibility

Confirm the new cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Using an incompatible cartridge can lead to errors. Double-check the cartridge model number against the printer’s specifications.

This is for InkJet printers such as DeskJet, OfficeJet, Envy, PhotoSmart, Tango, AMP, PageWide :

1. Use the cleaning mode for the cartridges.

If you’re experiencing blank page issues with an inkjet printer, ensure the printer has sufficient ink, clean printheads, and correct settings.

Press the information button to print a test page directly from the printer. If it’s blank, proceed to clean the printhead.

To address the issue, please follow these steps:

  • Carefully remove the cartridge from the printer.

  • Turn the cartridge upside down and let it rest for 3 minutes.

  • Reinsert the cartridge into its designated slots in the printer.

Load plain white paper and run the cleaning tool:

  • Printers with a touchscreen or menus: Navigate to Settings or Setup, then Tools or Printer Maintenance, and select Clean Printhead or Clean Cartridges.

Step 1. On the printer display, scroll to get to a “Menu” and then click on the “Setting“ icon

Step 2. Scroll to “Printer Maintenance” after clicking on the “Clean Printhead“.

Step 3. Click ‘Continue’ and it will start a cleaning process, which can take 1-2 minutes.

  • Printers without touchscreen: Open printer settings directly from your computer or HP Smart app and access the cleaning tool.

If the printed page shows defects, it’s possible that the printhead is severely clogged. You can try running up to two additional cleaning cycles to address this issue (the second cleaning is much deeper).

2. Ensure correct color, paper type, size, and quality settings for your print job

  • On Windows: Navigate to File > Print, then Options, Printer Setup, or Preferences.

  • On Mac: Use the Spotlight icon for searching, then open Preview, then navigate to File > Print.

By following these steps, you should be able to overcome the problem with blank pages. If these steps do not resolve the issue, please get back to Smart Ink customer service for additional help
