Recycling Recommendations

♻️ How to recycle compatible & remanufactured Smart Ink cartridges:

Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax, and other office supply stores take empty compatible cartridges in-store or by mail for recycling.
But there are some important details you need to consider:

  1. Office Depot, Office Max offers:
    • Recycling in-store (up to 10 empty cartridges per month)
    • Recycling by mail (you must fill the box with a minimum of 20 items or 20 lbs of a mixed product)
    • Please note that you must buy $10 that month in qualifying purchases to be able to recycle cartridges.
  2. Staples offers:
    • Recycling in person at a Staples store (up to 10 empty cartridges per month)
    • Recycling online is possible at Staples but for limited cartridge models (virgin mostly)
    • Please note that you must buy $30 that month in qualifying purchases to be able to recycle cartridges.
  3. To find other recycling points in your area, go to Earth911.com, search “Inkjet Cartridges,” enter your zip code, and find the most convenient location for you.

❗️ Every recycling center has its requirements, whether it’s the type of cartridges they take (OEM/remanufactured/compatible), specific cartridge models, amount or weight of the box, etc.
Therefore, please contact the recycling center to make sure they can cover your request.

♻️ What are some other ways to recycle remanufactured Smart Ink cartridges?

  1. Send your old cartridges to Ink Recycling.
The following Smart Ink remanufactured cartridge models are applicable:

    • HP: All models except for 67XL (Color, Black) will be accepted
    • Canon: 240XL, 241XL will be accepted, 245XL, 246XL will not
    • Epson: Will not be accepted
    • Keep in mind that a minimum total of $10 is required to recycle through this service.
So you need to collect approximately ten cartridges to be able to send them for recycling.
    • It’s required to mark the bag with the label “remanufactured” before sending them.
    • Also, note that you will not get credit for remanufactured cartridges.
  2. Ship your old cartridges to the Cartridges for Kids program and help schools and other organizations raise funds.
The following Smart Ink remanufactured cartridge models are applicable:

    • HP: All models except for 60XL Black will be accepted
    • Canon: All Smart Ink models will be accepted
    • Epson: Will not be accepted
    • Please note that the company provides the prepaid shipping label when the box’s contents have a minimum total value of $15 based on price lists at cfktoday.com.
    • Therefore, if you don’t use many cartridges, we recommend collecting cartridges around the house or sending your old cartridges along with an old cell phone, laptop or tablet to reach the minimum value.
  3. If you work at a government service agency you can recycle with USPS Federal Recycling Program.
The program requires either a minimum of 20 pounds of cartridges or a mix of 20 ink and toner cartridges.
